About me

I’ve been teaching music since I was 16, and have a degree in music from Cambridge University, as well as a PGCE in primary education and EYPS so I am qualified to teach 0-5s as well. I’m an experienced FE tutor and have run music groups and choirs since I was a teenager at school and been musical director and composed music for plays and shows.  Until 2020 I ran two community choirs in Gloucestershire and plan to start up some more groups in my new home on the Welsh border.

I am a registered teacher with ISM and have enhanced DBS clearance through ISM. I have always enjoyed learning new skills and methods of teaching and discovering new music to share with my students: currently I’m working on folk cello techniques on a new cello just for folk playing!

Now almost all my one to one teaching is online, so wherever you live I can teach you. And it works, really well. I provide videos (usually via my YouTube Channel) to help you between lessons and you can send me videos of progress so you can have far more feedback and help than a once a week 30 minute lesson would provide!

And the results speak for themselves. All my students, who take exams, pass, and almost all of them are awarded distinctions.

I currently have a number of students working at grade 8 and above level, many students over the years have been awarded scholarships and bursaries for music, they study GCSE and A level music, and right now, one student is planning to study music at university.

But I equally love teaching children and adult complete beginners. It’s wonderful seeing the progress they make, and their engagement.

Learning music is fantastic for all aspects of young people’s development, and can be a wonderful way to relax, learn a new skill and keep brains active for older people. So it really doesn’t matter what stage you are at now, exploring music is an investment for life!
